Despite having tough competition in the midfield, Carrick isn’t leaving United

Michael Carrick is 34 years old and he was rumored of exiting Manchester United and joining another club but it seems like the veteran midfielder will not be leaving the Premier League club anytime soon.

Juan Mata, MarouaneFellaini, Ander Herrera, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin are all of the competition that Michael Carrick will be facing for a spot in the midfield of Manchester United but despite being older than everyone else, Carrick is relishing being able to compete against all of these players for a spot in the team.

Manchester United’s Michael Carrick said: "Competition for places is good. Over the years there has always been competition for places at this club.As players, you want the best players here and you want the squad to be as strong as possible and challenging for everything we’re involved and, to do that, you need the best players and the strength in depth’’

Carrick is not afraid about having to fight for a spot in the squad of Louis van Gaaland the Dutch manager of Manchester United stated that Carrick still remains being an important player in the squad as Louis van Gaal told reporters: "Michael is a great reader of the game, and his exceptional versatility has enabled me to play him in different positions on the pitch. He is my vice-captain, and I have been impressed by his professionalism both on and off the pitch’’

The experienced midfielder has a contract with Manchester United which extends until 2016 and he is planning to fulfill that deal in it’s entirety and depending on how things go in the 2015-16 Premier League season, there is a possibility of the veteran player having his contract prolonged even further.
