Olympiakos in a Great Position for European Cup Playoffs

Olympiakos has now got themselves into a great position to make it to the European Cup playoffs after getting better of Partizan Belgrade yesterday with the score-line of 3 goals to 1.

The Olympiakos supporters are also known to be the supporters of Red Star Belgrade which is the arch rival of Partizan Belgrade in the Serbian league.

So it’s needless to say that there is no love lost between Partizan and Olympiakos supporters and that’s why the authorities were concerned about the security inside the stadium during the match.

At the end, with the consent of the Olympiakos hierarchy, a decision was made that the visiting supporters wouldn’t come to the stadium and it would only be local supporters watching the game.
Despite that, there was no drop in guard as far as the security is concerned and there were cops slotted at every corner of the ground to make sure nothing unpleasant happened.

It, however, wasn’t a completely peaceful affair as the local supporters pelted objects towards a visiting player when he went close to the stands to hit the corner kick for his side.

But if that one particular incident is barred, the match largely went on without any controversy and ended in the form of a victory for the visiting side.

The match started with some quick action upfront as both the teams managed to find the back of the net once in the space of the first 10 minutes.

No more goals came in the first half thereafter keeping the sides levelled at one-all and making for an exciting second half.

But, the second half proved to be pretty one sided as Olympiakos dominated it totally, adding two more goals to their tally and securing their victory.
