Ferdinand says Pochettino will be disappointed with Spurs’ display at Olympiakos

Former
Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has said that manager Mauricio Pochettino
would be gutted after Tottenham Hotspur threw away a 2-0 lead against
Olympiakos to settle for a share of the spoils. The north London giants scored
through Harry Kane and Lucas Moura during the first half of their Champions
League opener and they looked good value to secure three points.

However,
they struggled to keep up the momentum following the interval and that
contributed towards Olympiakos making a comeback to secure a stalemate in front
of their supporters. Speaking after the game, Ferdinand said that Pochettino
would be distraught with the display of some individuals including goalkeeper
and club-captain Hugo Lloris.

“Spurs will
be kicking themselves, two up away from home you go and silence the crowd and
then throw it away, show a lapse in concentration. You'd think they'd take
experience from last season and what they'd learned but they haven't. I thought
they were just slack and lax. Pochettino will be gutted with few individuals.
Lloris epitomised it, coming out all lacklustre,” he told BT Sport.

Spurs have been defensively vulnerable since the start of the campaign and they squandered a 2-0 advantage for the second time this season after the north London derby against Arsenal. That has genuinely frustrated Pochettino, who has gone public with the criticism of the players and it remains to be seen whether they can come up with a strong response at the weekend.

The Capital outfit are scheduled to face Leicester City on the road on Saturday and the game won’t be straightforward with the Foxes impressing during the opening stages of the season. Still, Spurs generally have a good head-to-head record against the east Midlands outfit and they have beaten the Foxes comfortably in four of the past five meetings.
