GREEKS FALL TO ARSENAL
Olympiakos Piraeus has been defeated by Arsenal in a Champions League match played at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. Arsenal won the match by a profound margin of 3-1. This was the second match for Arsenal in the ongoing Champions League and the Gunners have come out victorious in both the matches.
As this match was going to be played at the home ground of Arsenal, so, a huge number of Arsenal supporters were expected to turn up and that’s what exactly happened. More than 60,000 people turned up to cheer for the Gunners on Thursday and they were thoroughly entertained.
In the first half, the Olympiakos team showed a bit of resistance and the Gunners were not able to create too many opportunities. But, in the second half, the Olympiakos players didn’t manage to show the same kind of temperament. They looked under pressure and there were some unnecessary mistakes made by them in the second half.
Arsenal took a lead of 1-0 in the 42nd minute of the match when Gervinho found the back of the net by capitalizing on the pass of Mikel Arteta. But, the Gunners lost the lead just after a few minutes. Konstantinos Mitroglou was the one who scored the leveller for Olympiakos. It was a result of the poor defense of Arsenal. Greco gave a wonderful cross to Mitroglou who easily deflected the ball into the far corner of the net with a header. At the half time break, the scores were levelled at 1-1.
The Gunners were on attack right from the start of the second half and they succeeded in taking the lead in 56th minute of the match. It was Lukas Podolski who scored the goal, but, the credit should also be given Gervinho who did all the hard work.
The Ivorian striker got the ball near the left wing and he brought it inside the box and passed it to Podolski who swept the ball into the bottom corner of the net. The third goal for Arsenal was scored by Aaron Ramsey in the injury time.
Arsenal’s next match will be a Premier League encounter against West Ham United on Saturday.
