Olympiakos Piraeus started Champions League Strongly
Olympiakos Piraeus started off their Champions League journey in a strong manner as the Greek side overcame Athletic Madrid with a narrow scoreboard of 3-2. It was a fantastic result for Olympiakos as they defeated the current champions of Spain and claimed all 3 points but from there on out, the Greek team has encountered results that were surprising and this is the case of Malmo FF.
Malmo FF is Swedish football club that is currently located at the bottom of Group A in the Champions League having only been able to collect 3 points after 4 matches and those points arrived after Malmo FF surprisingly managed to emerge victorious with a victory over Olympiakos.
Olympiakos was able to defeat Athletic Madrid but lost against Malmo FF, all in the time lapse of 15 days and the Greek team later went on claiming a victory against Juventus.
The victory of Olympiakos against Juventus occurred in their first leg but in the 2nd leg it was the Italian team, Juventus that managed to step it up and collect all 3 points.
Group A is now being tightly contested between: Juventus and Olympiakos with both teams having snatched 6 points so far and Athletic Madrid is at the top of the group with 9 points but any of those clubs have a realistic chance on earning a promotion spot and securing their ticket to the next stages of the Champions League and despite that Olympiakos lost 3-2 against Juventus in their latest match in the European tournament, the head coach Michel remains optimistic of what his squad of players can accomplish.
"I am very proud of my players. We showed what we are capable of. Who knows, maybe that last save of Roberto [denying Vidal's penalty] might prove crucial and hand us qualification to the next stage. We had a tough time settling into a rhythm in the early stages of the match but after equalizing we improved a lot and I am perfectly satisfied with my players' efforts. We may only be an average side at European level, but we have already proven with our two wins at home and for much of Tuesday's match how we can hold our own." The Spanish coach of Olympiakos said after the clubs’ game against Juventus was over.
